Joyce is also working to further her studies in youth ministry from Grand Canyon University in Phoenix, Arizona. Besides her studies, she works at Lakewood Village, at an assisted living home for seniors, as activity director and at Cracker Barrel. In her “free” time, she home schools Abraham, who is in 1st grade and takes care of Brandon, who has cerebral palsy, with both physical and mental disabilities. Since becoming a minister, Alan and Joyce have been a part of many churches. Alan has been a pastor, an associate pastor, as well as a youth leader. Joyce plays the piano, sings and is very creative when making something out of nothing, in order to come up with props and scenes for the plays, as well as the themes for vacation Bible school.
With God’s help, they have been very successful at running youth ministries, vacation Bible schools and directing many plays, which the youth have dedicated their time and efforts into. The last play the youth worked on part of the proceeds went to the crisis pregnancy center and the other part went to “a humanity project”, which was kept secret, revealing at the first showing that the humanity project was to get Brandon, Alan and Joyce’s oldest son, a handicapped bath tub. The kids had such a great time growing in the Lord and lives were changed for God. After the last play, they have all been praying for a ministry in which they would be able to have a place to worship and to be able to practice and perform skits and plays to spread the Word of God. The mission team’s goal is to be able to help other charities and to work with handicapped children in their community.
The neatest thing happened, when God moved Alan and Joyce to Junction City, Kansas for one year, after residing in their home in Charleston for 21 years. When they returned to Charleston, relying on God for jobs, they were able to get into a house which had acreage. What was unknown at the time of setting up to see the house was that there was a large pole barn building sitting in the back yard, with acreage, for sale. After daily prayers, God provided jobs as well as the means to finally buy the building. Because they trust God and all He has done in their lives, they are turning over this building and the acreage around it to build God’s Theatre.
